Dancing Arts Center is proud to announce that Jacob Clerico has been asked to join American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company for the 2017-18 season.  American Ballet Theatre, America’s National Ballet Company, is recognized as one of the great ballet companies in the world.

Jacob Clerico, 19, from Natick, MA, began his dance training at the age of 4 at Dancing Arts Center and has been training at the prestigious Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in Manhattan for the past two years.  In addition to its outstanding dance education, the ABT School affords its exceptional students the opportunity to fill the ranks of the Studio Company and ultimately the main Company.

One of only four talented students selected this year; Jacob will begin as a member of the Studio Company in September.  American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company is a classical ensemble made up of 14 dancers of outstanding potential. The mission of ABT Studio Company is to train young dancers (ages 16-20) in preparation for entering American Ballet Theatre’s main Company or other leading national and international professional ballet companies. The program serves as a bridge between ballet training and professional performance.

ABT Studio Company dancers work closely with members of ABT’s Artistic Staff and guest faculty to learn ABT repertoire and other masterworks by noted choreographers including George Balanchine, Marius Petipa, August Bournonville, Antony Tudor, Paul Taylor and Jerome Robbins as well as emerging classical and contemporary choreographers.  The ABT Studio Company also acts as ABT’s principal outreach arm by participating in educational and outreach programs throughout New York City and beyond.

Upon the recommendation of Cynthia Harvey, the ABT JKO School Artistic Director, Clerico was extended the invitation to join the Studio Company by Kate Lydon, the Studio Company’s Artistic Director.  The invitation was extended to him following the School’s end-of-year performance on March 25 in New York City.

“We are incredibly proud of Jacob’s accomplishments,” say Gregg Saulnier and Patrick Notaro, Dancing Arts Center’s Co-Directors.  “His dedication and willingness to work hard, combined with his natural talent for dance, were evident when we first started working with him at Dancing Arts Center.  It is so rewarding for us to see him flourish and begin to forge a career path as a performing dance artist within such an amazing organization as American Ballet Theatre.  This is the epitome of a success story for a young dancer and a testament to the excellent training he has received here at Dancing Arts Center and at American Ballet Theatre.”
