Town Election Candidate Interviews

by Mary Greendale
May 4, 2017

There are only three races on the election ballot on May 23rd, i.e. Finance Committee, Planning Board and School Committee. In an effort to help people learn about the candidates, I interviewed all of them for “Just Thinking…” on HCAT TV.

The interviews are presented by office, so you can see each candidate for the School Committee (for example) in succession. I asked the same questions of each candidate, which allows us to compare responses one to the other and make our own decisions. I much prefer this format to a debate.

The School Committee candidate interviews are currently available online at

The Finance Committee online:

The Planning Board online:

The candidates said they are happy to meet with residents and/or will respond to questions by phone or email.  Most have Facebook pages, and phone numbers are in the Green Phone book.  If you have difficulty in reaching someone, please contact me and I will connect you. mmgreendale@gmail.com

In addition to voting for officeholders, there is a ballot question this year. The question asks if we want to ban retail sales of marijuana in Holliston. People would always have their rights to own or use marijuana as dictated by state law. The ban is exclusively on the retail selling of marijuana within the boundaries of Holliston.

Election Day: May 23rd at the High School field house from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please vote.

Television schedule for the interviews, as of May 2, 2017, is below. The station schedules are always posted on the Home Page for HCAT at http://www.hcattv.org/. Look in the left column, lower part of front page.

State House Update-Summer 2017

by Representative Carolyn Dykema

Dear Neighbor, Happy summer! I hope you are making the most of the warm weather and long days here in the 8th Middlesex District. Here in the State House, we have worked to finalize a fiscally stable FY18 state budget, continue to hold hearings for the 4,000+ bills that have been filed this session including major healthcare reforms, and are working to engage stakeholders on critical issues like climate impacts and immigration. This session I am the primary sponsor of 35 bills on issues ranging from veterans' preference in hiring to teen texting and driving. Two of my environmental priorities this session include H.2113, An Act to protect Massachusetts pollinators and H.2115, An Act relative to drought management. More information about all of the bills I've filed can be found on the legislative website. If you have questions about any of this legislation, I'd welcome the chance to discuss them. Input from you is essential to the work I do to represent you at the State House. Please stay in touch. Warmly, Carolyn Dykema
