Johnson Honored as Town's Oldest Veteran

by Bobby Blair
May 10, 2017

John (Babe) Johnson is presented a citation from the House of Representatives Sunday at the Holliston Historical Society grounds by Rep. Carolyn Dykema.

A similiar citation by the State Senate given by Sen. Karen Spilka who could not be present was read by Town Clerk Liz Greendale.

Johnson 96, became the oldest town veteran in February when Grace Monahan 103 passed away. Selectman Kevin Conley above read a proclamation from the board of selectmen.

Johnson's name will now be inscribed on a plaque which hangs in town hall above the ceremonial sword which signifies the town's oldest veteran. Johnson served in WWII as a submariner. The presentation above was handled by American Legion Commander Steve Bradford during the post's annual food truck festival. Bradford also read a letter to Johnson from Massachusetts Sec. of Veterans Affairs Francisco Urena.
