Dennis Charles Gilson
Of Myakka City was born on June 24, 1951, in Chelsea, MA, to Fred and Dorothy Gilson. He passed on April 22, 2017, at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center after a month long struggle. He leaves behind his significant other of 23 years, Dr. Paula Porter, and a brother, C. Paul Gilson of Vienna, VA, and a long list of family and friends. Dennis grew up and lived in and near the Boston area, including Wellsley, Holliston, Framingham, and Ashland. He attended classes at Worchester Polytech, and eventually received a Bachelor's degree in community planning in 1993 from UMass Boston. He worked in a variety of careers during his life from a mechanic at Sears Automotive, to a carpenter and contractor, to working at Wolf, Greenfield, and Sacks law firm in Boston and later starting his own company, Gil Enterprises, focusing on computer network systems. It was his passion for computers that led to meeting Paula online in 1993. Dennis has been residing in Myakka City since 2004. A celebration of life will be held on June 10, from 10 a.m. – 12 at the Myakka City Community Center. Memorials may be contributed to Southeastern Service Dogs of Palmetto, FL.
