Be Good

by Melanie Galeaz
May 29, 2017

Why didn't some people listen?

Be Good

I grab my jacket

Keys dangling from my fingers

My hand twists the door knob

But each time

I do not leave

Not without hearing one of my parents say

"be good".

Breaking News

September 11, 2001: terrorists took over four planes, crashing them into a field in Pennsylvania, the Twin Towers in New York City, and the Pentagon. There were 2,996 deaths and over 6,000 who were wounded.

As I start my car,

I hear the words of a new tragedy

Another person who was not good

I close my eyes

Whispering the words

Reminding myself to

"be good".

Breaking News

December 14, 2012: twenty children and six teachers are dead after a gunman went on a killing spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School

All these tragedies

So much death

So many monsters

I am reminded of how lucky I am

To have a safe environment

To have parents who remind me to

"be good"

Breaking News

April 15, 2013: two bombs were set off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and wounding several hundred.

The two words are simple

But they hold more meaning

Than one may think

Being told to "be good"

Should not be taken lightly

It should be followed through with

Breaking News

November 13, 2015: gunmen and suicide bombers attack a concert, a major stadium, restaurants and bars, and left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded.

It makes me wonder

If their parents

Told them to

"be good"

Breaking News

May 22, 2017: a bomb is set off at the end of an Ariana Grande concert, killing 22 people and injuring more than 100 others.

"Be good"

Why didn't some people listen?

by Press Release

This study was released by the BU School of Public Health on February 2, 2018. The title of this report by BU has been misunderstood. Contaminants were found in the raw water, not our drinking water, Except for naturally-occurring Manganese, the drinking water meets or exceeds the standards. "The researchers wrote that the findings suggest the area’s aquifer system is also vulnerable." The Water Department has tested for many of the other chemicals in the driniking water and found none. The wells referred to were private wells.
