Week 8 saw a couple of competitive games in ‘A’ Division.  In ‘B’ Division, Co-leader Lions beat Long Distance Tire 13-3 in a game LDT needed to keep 1st place in site.

Week 8 saw a couple of competitive games in ‘A’ Division.  In the late game, Rookie Ben Pratt hit a first inning 2-run HR and Wayne Peterson’s grand slam in the 6th inning propelled Anthony’s to a 9-6 win over Dalton Rd.  With the tying run at the plate,  Anthony’s outfielder Dave Robinson channeled his inner Willie Mays and made a game saving back-to-the-plate catch to seal the win.  In Kampersal’s 7-5 win over Jasper Rock, Bryn Smith went 4 for 4 to continue his hot streak and put veteran outfielder, Derek Jordan, on notice for a possible platoon situation. The ageless Buzzy Milan stepped off the plane from his FLA vacation to collect 2 hits and make a diving catch at 2nd base to thwart a Jasper comeback.   Downtown pounded a depleted DYR squad 10-2 behind Tim McCarron’s 3 hits and 3 RBI’s while Braggville remains undefeated with a 10-2 beat down of South.  Keep an eye on South player/manager Bryan Sweeney this week as he may look to clean house over his team’s 3-game losing streak.

In ‘B’ Division, Co-leader Lions beat Long Distance Tire 13-3 in a game LDT needed to keep 1st place in site. Queens upended The Hood 9-6 behind John Abucewicz’s 2 hits and 2 RBI.   Eric Kuharich went 3 for 5 with 4 RBI to help lead co-leader Mudville to a 17-2 pasting of Brentwood.  With 2 weeks left in the regular season, we have a log-jam in ‘A’ Division behind Braggville while Mudville and Lions are poised to make the jump to ‘A’ next yr as the top 2 ‘B’ teams.  Week 9 games will help to clear up the playoff picture in both divisions.

Scores from 6/4:

Queens 9 The Hood 6

Anthony’s East 9 Dalton Rd 6

Mudville 17 Brentwood 2

Downtown 10 DYR 2

Lions 13 Long Distance Tire 3

Braggville 10 South 2

Kampersal 7 Jasper Rock 5
