East Coast Soul Wraps Up Summer Concert Series

by Matt Ristaino
August 2, 2017

It was a beautiful evening for the final installment of this year’s summer concert series at Goodwill Park on Tuesday. East Coast Soul treated the town to an excellent concert featuring funk, soul, and R&B music.

East Coast Soul is based out of Boston, with many of its members living in Boston and the surrounding area, according to Sean Davis, the band’s drummer. Davis said that the size of the band varies each performance, with some gigs having up to ten people in the band.

On Tuesday, there were six musicians performing: Sophia Pascual and Torrene Nelson were the singers, Ed Ricco on guitar, Grant Rudd on bass, Marcus Montero played the saxophone, and Davis was on the drums.

This was not the band’s first trip to Holliston. Davis said that they have performed at a couple of weddings at the historical society in the past.

“I’d say at least nine out of ten of our gigs are weddings,” Davis said, “but we like to do these types of concerts whenever we can.”

Davis said the band first formed about eight years ago when he met Sophia Pascual while they were both students at Boston University. The band grew a few years later when Davis and Pascual went back to school at Berklee College of Music, where they met many of the members who played on Tuesday. More information about East Coast Soul can be found at their website: http://eastcoastsoul.net/.

The music wasn’t the only attraction at the park however. Captain Marden’s Seafood had a food truck catering the event, Central Café was on site to scoop ice cream, and the Holliston Police Department had a tent set up and a police car for the kids to check out as a part of the National Night Out.
