Downtown Flower Beds Make Transformation

by Bobby Blair
September 21, 2017

It was down right foggy Sunday morning as shown here on Highland Street. The movement of mums to the downtown area for planting took many vehicles including a horse trailer as part of the change over of summer annuals to more hardy chrysanthmums. Some annuals such as marigolds will remain in place.

Below Paul Saulnier, a member of Holliston in Bloom, plants along Hollis Street. The hanging baskets in the town square will be taken down this week and replaced with hanging mum baskets several days prior to visitors from across the country touring downtown on October 7th.

Holliston in Bloom co-chair, Kathy Shore, is about to plant a mumbo (a three colored) mum. Shore just came off a day of helping out at Celebrate Holliston.

Robert Weidknecht also took part in yesterday's parade and field day. Better known for his role as Chairman of the Rail Trail Committee, Robert is a true volunteer as well as a past Citizen of the Year.

Jill Malcolm squeezes mums amongst the marigolds at Blair Square. Holliston in Bloom's work continues this week with the downtown whiskey barrels getting a makeover. Organizing the morning's plantings along with Shore were Cherry Fenton and a dozen other volunteers.
