Round 4 of HIB Floral Winners

by Bobby Blair
September 28, 2017

Round 4 of the Holliston in Bloom Floral Recognition Program found several winners on Winthrop Street. The folks at 79 Winthrop Street below have opted not to have to mow a portion of their front and side yard. The plantings make the home inviting. Note the window boxes on the 2nd floor. A thumbs up by our three judges.

Ironically our next winner at 67 Winthrop Street (above) is the next door neighbor to our previous winner. The property abuts Exchange Street and the owners have lined an impressive column of perennials on the street side. The backyard driveway is also lined with plantings. Both neighbors have made great use of limited space.

Living on the main street of anywhere can often showcase your home to motorists or simple passersby. In the case of the Mottor's 870 Washington Street property, a home renovation including an addition and makeover of a garage in the rear of the property has local residents talking with unsolicited comments such as "I love what they did with the property". Like the folks at 67 Winthrop, 870 Washington Street abuts two streets including School Street. Planting on both streets and well tended gardens gets a thumbs up from our judges.

The Friends of Holliston Trails is excited to host the 5th Annual First Night Trail Walk on December 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. For those who are new to town, fire pits light the trail from Blair Square and Cross Street to Phipps Tunnel. Friendly fire pit hosts chat with walkers and offer a source of warmth during your stroll. To make this event the best yet, the Friends of the Holliston Trails are still in need of additional fire pit hosts. It's an easy task and a lot of fun.
