Give Back to Givers Honors Student Volunteer Alyssa Winn

by Press Release
December 16, 2017

Give Back to Givers is a 501(c)(3) certified non profit who’s mission is to promote the spirit of volunteerism in Holliston by organizing ways for people to show their appreciation to Holliston’s many volunteers.  Each month, a “Volunteer of the Month” is honored to highlight their service and dedication to the town of Holliston and to show how important volunteerism is to Holliston.  This December, Give Back to Givers decided to honor a student each week as a special “Volunteer of the Week”.  The community would not be as great without these teenage leaders and volunteers - their work is greatly appreciated.

Volunteer of the Week -  Dec 1 — Alyssa Winn

This December, we are going to be featuring a high schooler each week as a special “Volunteer of the Week!” Our first featured teenager is Alyssa Winn, an HHS Junior. Alyssa is always volunteering as well as using her great leadership skills to help people in any way she can! Here’s Alyssa’s answers to our questions:
What do you currently do as volunteer work?

I am the Recruitment Chair for the Youth in Philanthropy program at the Foundation for Metrowest. The Foundation for Metrowest serves a variety of needs in the Metrowest area, and their Youth in Philanthropy program is a hands on experience into philanthropy that allows students to grant 10,000 dollars to non profits. With YIP and the Foundation, I have been able to visit and volunteer with a lot of unique and remarkable non-profits such as Children's Charter and Positive Tracks.

What made you want to get involved in volunteering?

I always have had an interest in volunteering and philanthropy after learning about how even a small effort can have a big impact. I first began volunteering when I was really little at an animal shelter, and ever since I've been involved with philanthropy in any way I can.

What is your favorite part of volunteering?

My favorite part of volunteering is meeting the incredible people who are devoted to giving back, and those who in the face of a challenge come out with a smile on their face. I've been fortunate to meet people of all ages who have overcome so much and still have made it their mission to spread positivity and light.

What have you gotten out of volunteering?

I’ve gotten to grow as a person, a philanthropist, a leader, and a worker. Volunteering has given me a different perspective of the world and has allowed me to approach my future with alacrity.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Alyssa and YIP, please feel free to contact her at alyssawinn@comcast.net
