At The Risk of Repeating Myself

by Bobby Blair

It can almost become depressing listening to the local police and fire communications on my scanner. If anything else I have a sincere appreciaiton for our emergency responders here in town. I can't help but ask myself if I'm hearing more calls on the scanner for people stuck in the cycle of addiction. I had written a story only eight days ago about addiction: http://hollistonreporter.com/article/13614/it-s-killing-and-destroying-lives.html

Not three days later another short story about overdoses in East Holliston: .http://hollistonreporter.com/article/13646/two-overdose-at-bertucci-s.html

Some time earlier this week emergency responders were called to a downtown location for a middle aged male who was unresponsive and ETOH (extremely intoxicated).  On the day that I write this, December 15th, the call came early at 8:26 am for a male in the downtown area who was unresponsive and not breathing. Just a little over ten hours later the call came again for a possible overdose on the grounds of an East Holliston business. That person was transported by ambulance to an unspecified location. And these are only some of the calls I hear. Just how bad is the situation I wonder.

Selectmen in town did breifly mention this past week that the state has monies for transportation and substance abuse at the top of their priority list for funding.  In the meantime there is help out there. While many addicted to substance abuse many not see the list below, you have, and now have a place to begin with that friend, spouse, relative, co-worker or neighbor who may be struggling. It may be a dicey subject to bring up, but it may save someone's life.
