The Holliston Newcomers Club Announces Grant Application Open

by Press Release
February 3, 2018

By Kimberly Adkin, HNC Community Investments Committee Chair

The Holliston Newcomers Club has long been committed to giving back to our community.  In 2017, we were able to approve all of the grant requests we received because of successful fundraising activities such as the Craft Fair and the Gingerbread House Decorating Event. Unfortunately, with the loss of our venue for the Craft Fair, we anticipate that we will not be able to honor all the requests we receive in 2018. Thus we have revised the grant criteria for 2018.

The 2018 grant application is available on the Holliston Newcomers website HollistonNewcomers.org. We will consider only those grants that are completed in full and will prioritize funding for those applications that best fit the criteria established by the Community Investment Committee. Specifically, the grant application must demonstrate that the project would:

1.   Have a significant impact on the community,

2.   Provide needed services/projects to the community at large, and
3.   Impact a large number of Holliston residents.

4.   Support groups that do not have significant income from fundraising

Please note, grant proposals that seek to redistribute funds or that seeks funds strictly for operating costs will not be considered. All educational requests must be submitted through the designated school administrator, and no individual educator requests will be reviewed.

Also, please indicate whether or not it will be possible to complete the project within the next calendar year if your request is only partially funded.  This year we are also asking applicants to share what they see as the loss to the community if Newcomers does not fund their grant. All applicants will be notified of decisions in April 2018.

The deadline for requests is February 23, 2018.  Requests received after the deadline will not be considered.

Applications can be emailed to HNCCommunityInvestments@gmail.com or received at the address noted below.

It's All About Community

On Monday, January 7th, the Holliston Public Library hosted a Meet the Author session with local writer, Ted Reinstein, who 'edu-tained' (educational and entertaining - not always easy to do) the audience about his most recent book, "New England's General Stores.' The fact that Ted lives in Holliston made it possible for his co-author, and wife Ann Marie to join the fun.
