Local 4th Grader Gets Art Show

Never Gave Up When Others Tell Her, Her Dream Is Impossible

Holliston/Walpole, Massachusetts (March 6, 2018) Ten year old Hollistonian resident, Isabella Schmidt has been chosen to be the featured artist at SheBreathes Balance and Wellness in Walpole for the month of March. The art show opening is on March 6, 2018 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Healthy drinks/snacks provided. The event is free and open to the public. This is the first time a child artist has been chosen to be a featured artist of the month.

Isabella’s unique works have been described as happy, inspiring and whimsical. When people see her painting, they stop and utter “wow” and “ah”. In Isabella’s paintings, you find bright colors she has named, “Rainbow Heart” “Orange Splash” “Star Girl” “Mermaid Dinner” “World In A Jar” “DayDreaming” “Ocean Fun” “Lilac Puppy” “Abstract Heart” “Beachfront” “Floral Days” “Purple Heart” and “Nighttime Owl.”

When she was five years old, Isabella boldly walked into the kitchen and declared, “I am an artist. Art is my life.” When asked what she likes about art, she immediately lights up. “I like art because it allows me to see how everyone in the world is so unique and how they express themselves.” When deciding what to paint next, Isabella looks around for something to inspire her or revisits the art she’s already created. She is also influenced by the places she’s traveled to including: the US, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Germany and Portugal. Her art is self-taught. Having an art show is a dream come true for Isabella.

“Looking at her drawing and painting is an incredible experience,” Maria Salomão-Schmidt, Isabella’s mother smiles. “You can feel her totally immersed in the creation process. People get inspired just watching her do her thing! Bella sings as she paints! How sweet is that?”

“It runs in the family,” says Douglas Schmidt, her father. “Isabella’s paternal grandfather, Herbert Schmidt, was a director at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts, where he worked with Andy Warhol, Ansel Adams and Georgia O’Keeffe. He has always encouraged her by sending her art supplies.”

In her spare time, Isabella volunteers to help feed the homeless, writes plays and books, and plays the drums, bells, tambourine and cymbals. Besides English, Isabella also speaks French and Portuguese. When Isabella grows up she wants to be an actress.
