House Fire on Appleyard

by Chief Michael Cassidy
March 16, 2018

The Holliston Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in the house on Appleyard Lane at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 15.  Upon arrival, Fire Chief Michael Cassidy observed smoke coming from the attic.  Firefighters found a fire in a bedroom on the second floor of the home and quickly extinguished the blaze.  There were no injuries.  Damage is estimated to be $450,000.  The last of the fire personnel cleared the scene at 6:02 PM.

The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious.  According to Chief Cassidy, “whenever there is a fire after a storm like the recent Nor’easter, we always start by looking for damage to the electrical infrastructure on the street and the wiring going into the building.”  Cassidy cautioned all residents to be aware of electrical hazards “if the lights are either dim or very bright, if only part of the house has power, or if there is an odor of something burning, residents should immediately shut off the power at the main electrical panel, call 9-1-1, and evacuate the home.”

I am sorry for the family's loss. It is, however, good for all to have a reminder of fire safety after an electrical outage that this town experienced this week.
