Week #2: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: ( thru 4/22)

(Braggville Pitcher Darren Fell delivers a pitch in his team’s 22-5 mauling of DYR.)

Week 2 saw Braggville spank DYR 22-5 thanks in part to 19 DYR errors leading to 13 unearned runs.  DYR LF Ken Sawyers had to be rushed to a retinal specialist post game as a result of staring directly into the sun for 60 minutes as Braggville launched rocket after rocket into sun-drenched left field.  Ageless Paul Murphy (drug test pending) hit a 3-run bomb in the 3rd for the victors.   Dalton Rd posted a 9-2 win over Long Distance Tire behind the “Thunder & Lightning” duo of Dave Birmingham and Tim McDevitt as each collected 3 hits and McDevitt scored 3 times from his leadoff spot. LTD 2nd baseman Chris Landers, who was almost beaten to a pulp las week during the skirmish with Mudville behemoth Errick Spada, went 4-4 in the loss.

Jasper Rock continued to pound the ball in a 13-4 win over Lions.  Kevin Hastings led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s while Ernie Tomacelli remained red-hot with 3 hits and driving in all 4 runs in the losing effort.   Downtown topped Queens 12-4 (despite SS John Drohan leaving 11 men on base) with the help of OF Tim McCarron’s 4 hit, 4 RBI night.  Kampersal defeated The Hood 6-0 but the real story here was the post-game tirade of player-manager Tom Kampersal.  The 2nd consecutive week of anemic offense caused the profanity-laced incident.  Sources tell me SS Dana Bureau and Tom had to be separated in the parking lot by good Samaritans as their Kampersal teammates blissfully guzzled their post-game libations only a few feet away.

(DYR pitcher Justin Lessard swings away in his team’s loss against Braggville.)

Mudville took Brentwood to the woodshed, 19-1 behind 70’s rocker and current pitcher, Steve Miller’s arm and bat.  Miller went 7 giving up the 1 run and smacked a 2-run homer in the 4th.  Errick Spada continued to pound the ball with 2 infield singles from his clean- up spot while 3B “Gameday” Kuharich sparked a 9-run 5th with a triple which would’ve been an inside the park HR if not for the 48 lbs of knee braces he wears.  Anthony’s East decided to show up this week and beat South 14-6 thanks to 3 hit, 3 RBI effort of 2B Mike Delprete.  The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes as player-manager John Shanahan went to the wrong field again.  Ginkgo biloba John, try it…

The Much-anticipated Mudville Traffic Study is Here!

by Chris Cain

When I studied science in school (in addition to reading, writing, and 'rithmetic of course), the professor would say, "In God We Trust, All Others Bring Data." Holliston's Board of Selectmen must have gone to the same school because they wanted data before considering any traffic volume and speed mitigation strategies in Mudville. The McMahon group recently delivered their 104 page report to the Selectmen (and to the public via the town's website). https://www.townofholliston.us/sites/hollistonma/files/uploads/mcmahon_mudville_traffic_pattern_analysis_memo_2018-11-07.pdf Rather than having everyone read the entire report, below are some of the data presented in a 'did you know' format. Did you know the current speed limit on all streets in Mudville is exactly the same as on Route 16 in downtown Holliston - 30 mph. Looking at the compilation photo above, what might strike you - besides that there are no speed limit signs anywhere in Mudville?
