Students from Holliston’s Robert Adams Middle School Awarded Grand Prize for Video Contest, Win 10K for School

Maggie Vaughn, Eva Bergloff, Ella Detering and Sasha Tcheperapanova, students in Ms. Jaime Cutone’s 8th grade science class, were one of six grand prize winners in Biogen Foundation’s Spark Video Contest.  The students and teacher were awarded the $10K prize at a presentation at MIT in April, with the funds to be used at Adams School.

The Biogen Foundation Spark Video Contest had an open call to Massachusetts and North Carolina middle and high schools to submit a video on the topic of genetic mutations.  After receiving 30,000 votes on all eligible videos, the Adams student’s video on ‘Bubble Disease’ was one of three winners selected in Massachusetts.  Plans for how the school will use the funds are being made.

Impressive videos were created by the entire class but only 2 were selected to be entered into the contest. The prize money from Biogen Foundation totaled $12,000 ($10,000 for the Grand Prize) for the middle school which included a second place prize for the video created by Cooper Sweer, Ryan Krantz, Anish Guggilam, Brayden Kelleher & Sean O'Neill. The team who created the Grand Prize winning video (Eva, Sasha, Maggie & Ella) is working with Mr. Jordan & Mr. Buday to install a water bottle refill/filtration station at the middle school. Incredible work by all!
