Marion Valpey at 83

Marion A. Valpey, 83, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Born in Quincy, she was the daughter of the late Marion I. (Smith) and Albert B. Rich.

Marion was a longtime resident of Holliston, moved to Eastham in 2003 and resided at The Willows in Worcester for the last six years. She was a travel agent and tour guide. Her love of travel brought her to every continent, including a recent trip to Africa. She was a graduate of Wellesley College, where she studied maritime history and lectured for the Smithsonian. She also wrote the news column, “After Dinner Mince” in the former Framingham News. She was a longtime member of the D.A.R., the Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society. She took pleasure in leading a Memoir’s Group and loved genealogy research. Of all of the things she’s done in her life, the most important and rewarding was raising her five children and spending time with her grandchildren.

Marion is survived by her children, Ted Valpey III and his wife Debbie of Holliston, Sue Chick and her husband Steve of Meredith, NH, Sandy Valpey Cordts and her husband Alan of Falmouth, John Valpey and his wife Susan of Lincoln, and Jessie Evers and her husband Greg of Medway; 9 grandchildren, Danielle, Jeff, and Taryn Valpey, Skyler and Kayla Chick, Jillian and Chad Valpey, and Christine and Matt Evers, and 1 great-grandchild, Jaysen Chick-Rivera. She also leaves behind a sister, Carolyn Butler and her husband Pete of Holliston, her former husband Ted Valpey Jr., of Dover, NH, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Eleanor Tebbetts.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral service will take place on Monday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Holliston. Burial will be private with family. A service for the Willows residents in Worcester will be held at a later date. Flowers will be gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to SEA Education Association, P.O. Box 6, Woods Hole, MA 02543.
