Week #4: Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: (thru 5/6)

by Ken Sawyers
May 9, 2018

In a key Division A match up DYR nipped Downtown 8-7 in 8 innings thanks to a Gerry Diluzio sac fly in the bottom of the 8th to plate Ken Sawyers with the winning run.  Downtown had jumped in front 7-5 in the 6th behind future hall famer Tim McCarron’s 3-run homer but DYR tied it with 2 in the 7th thanks to RF Ken Szajda’s 4th hit of the game.   Still a mystery as to why the Downtown slugger is hitting 6th but rumor has it the situation has reached its boiling point and Pitcher/manager Mike Adams may have a mutiny on his hands if this 2-gm slide continues.  Dalton Rd took care of business with a 16-4 beatdown of Mudville largely in part to the defensive efforts of 3B Mike Silk who recorded 13 put outs and possibly concussed himself with a diving effort for a foul ball along the 3rd base line rock wall at Kampersal field as in his next AB, he struck out swinging.  According to teammates, he missed the pitch by 3 ft.   He refused to go to the hospital for observation, but it was clear postgame at Anthony’s on the Green he was in need of medical attention as he walked into the ladies room twice.  Consecutive weeks of Uber rides didn’t help Anthony’s East or their manager John Shanahan as they were beaten 10-2 by Braggville.  LF Chad Engel’s 3 hits and 3 RBI paced the offense while P Darren Fell kept Anthony’s off balance all night with his ‘Gyro Ball’ pitch.  Kampersal remained undefeated despite their anemic offense with a lethargic 6-1 win over Lions.  Player/manager Tom Kampersal will continue to bat himself lead-off despite having an OBP of .018.  Should do wonders for the offense in the weeks ahead.

South won their second in a row by knocking Jasper Rock from the undefeated ranks with a 6-3 victory.  LF Jason Smith had 3 hits and 2 RBI for the winners while P Bryan Sweeney continues to dazzle on the bump.  He had his 53rd career shutout attempt broken in the 5th when Jeremy Cordon (the fastest accountant on earth) scored from 2nd on a swinging bunt by embattled 3B Doug Herman.  Herman and manager Derek Cordon apparently have cleared the air over Herman’s contract demands and level of commitment to the team as they were seen in the dugout postgame planning their fantasy baseball line-ups together.  Brentwood pounded Hood 19-6 but since they don’t show up at Anthony’s post game, I don’t know any game details and same goes for Long Distance Tire who beat Queens 15-5.  Help me help you, fellas…show up!
