HBA Lunch & Learn: Managing Your Digital Business

by Paul Saulnier
May 23, 2018

May 17, 2018. The HBA (Holliston Business Association) held another Lunch & Learn session for its members in the Gillman Room of the Holliston Public Library.

HBA's co-chair Matt Cicciari welcomed members and guests to this continuing series of informative sessions designed to help Holliston businesses thrive in a constantly changing world. Performance reviews by customers and connections to businesses on line are very important to the growth, if not survival, of a business in today's digital world. Here to tell us more about these topics are Monika Turek of Turek Design and Jackie De Boer of WGB Connects.

Monika Turek encouraged business owners to ask for reviews from customers and recommended that owners check all the online servers that post comments. She said that there may be negative comments out there that a business is not aware of and it could be hurting the business. If a negative comment is found, that commenter should be contacted to determine the problem as some sites allow the commenter to change the comment. Google and Yelp are there two primary online sites that carry comments.

Turek suggested going to "Google My Business.com" to claim ownership of your business listing.

Jackie de Boer, Accredited Virtual Assistance (AVA), below, discussed how businesses can use LinkedIn's connections to improve exposure and productivity.

Jackie De Boer offered advise on how to accept or decline invitations to connect with other businesses on LinkedIn.

The HBA promises to hold additional Lunch and Learn sessions. For more information on the HBA go to: http://hollistonbusinessassociation.com/

The Much-anticipated Mudville Traffic Study is Here!

by Chris Cain

When I studied science in school (in addition to reading, writing, and 'rithmetic of course), the professor would say, "In God We Trust, All Others Bring Data." Holliston's Board of Selectmen must have gone to the same school because they wanted data before considering any traffic volume and speed mitigation strategies in Mudville. The McMahon group recently delivered their 104 page report to the Selectmen (and to the public via the town's website). https://www.townofholliston.us/sites/hollistonma/files/uploads/mcmahon_mudville_traffic_pattern_analysis_memo_2018-11-07.pdf Rather than having everyone read the entire report, below are some of the data presented in a 'did you know' format. Did you know the current speed limit on all streets in Mudville is exactly the same as on Route 16 in downtown Holliston - 30 mph. Looking at the compilation photo above, what might strike you - besides that there are no speed limit signs anywhere in Mudville?
