Outstanding Floral and Landscaping Award July 10, 2018

by Mary Greendale
July 10, 2018

Karen Sarsfield of 65 Wingate Road is the recipient of this week’s Holliston in Bloom Outstanding Floral and Landscaping Award. Karen moved to Holliston with her family in 1994 and has been expanding and modifying the landscaping areas around her house each year.

“Spring is my favorite season with summer a close second. I love color!” exclaimed Karen. “It makes me happy.” The hanging basket planter adds height to the floral display and showcases her favorite color (pink) and tropical flower mandevilla, which is an annual in the New England climate. A grouping of Montauk daisies at the base of the hanging planter will showcase their blooms in September. Cacti near the front door add texture as well as color.

Karen enjoys selecting annuals and perennials that add a pop of color to the flowerbeds. She also includes garden decorations that add a touch of whimsy and elicit smiles from those who discover these hidden gems amongst the plantings. A red bench and red table and chairs near the shade garden extend an invitation to sit a while and enjoy the gardens.

“My next project is to remove the wildflower violets from the flowerbed to the left of the driveway. While they have lovely purple blooms in the spring, they will eventually crowd out the heuchera, hosta and brunnera in that bed,” mused Karen.

Congratulations, Karen, and thanks for helping to beautify our community.

As wonderful and colorful the yard is when I come home from work or golfing, she is still the prettiest thing I see.
