Owners Appeal Order to Euthanize Dog

by Mary Greendale
October 18, 2018

On September 24th, the Selectmen ordered Rocky, a German Shepherd owned by the Pessins of Morgan's Way (below) to be euthanized.

Daniel and Kerrilyn Pessin of 120 Morgan’s Way have appealed the recent order by the Board of Selectmen to euthanize their dog Rocky who was deemed dangerous after killing a dog owned by Bob and Kathy Chisholm of Kim Place.  The appeal was filed with the District Court and the hearing is scheduled for November 13th. (This is a correction from original printing.)

No additional evidence can be offered at the trial. Based on existing information, then, the justice will decide whether to support euthanizing the dog or not. If the justice upholds the Town’s order to dispose of the dog, the Pessins must reimburse the community for any costs incurred in legal action. If the justice overturns the Selectmen’s action, the Town must pay all reasonable costs incurred for housing and care of the dog during impoundment.
