Camp-Out on the Green

by Bobby Blair
October 20, 2018

If you happened by the Congregational Church Green earlier today, that wasn't the Continental Army who had pitched tents, but rather Boy Scout Troop 73.

Aidan Smith takes a go on the monkey ropes but didn't quite make the entire span without falling.

Pictured above Asst. Scoutmaster Brian Ogilvie and new Scoutmaster Frank Chamberlain who also serves the town as Chairman of the Community Preservation Committee. Chamberlain noted that former Scoutmaster Mike Tyman had stepped down, but just five minutes later, who should this reporter find but Tyman? Tyman said he began the camp- out 10 years ago on the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Various stations will be visited during the day including the formidable monkey rope, ax yard, map & compass, first aid, knot making and woodworking.

And what's for supper - spaghetti I was told & apple cobbler for dessert. Above scout Ted Grever shows Om Patel the fine art of knot tying. Townspeople and those wishing to join the Boy Scouts are invited to drop by during the day.
