Veterans Day Observances

by Bobby Blair
November 8, 2018

Known as Armistice Day until 1954 when it was renamed Veterans Day, the day itself commemorates the Armistice with Germany on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 ending World War One.

Holliston will observe Veterans Day on November 10th (Marine Corps birthday) due to church traffic on Sunday, the actual day, and Monday being observed as a national holiday.

Activities include the following: A wreath laying and rifle salute will take place at Blair Square at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 10th. A procession of veterans will then march to Memorial Square (Hollis & Washington Streets, for a short remembrance and then depart for town hall where short services will be held around 11 am. Veterans will pose on town hall steps for a class photo and then retire to upper town hall for a meal sponsored by the American Legion, Holliston Lions Club & VFW Post.
