Walking School Bus Is On Its Way To Holliston

by Press Release
January 7, 2019

The Holliston Elementary PTO is preparing to launch a Walking School Bus for students in the Miller Elementary School on Earth Day, 2019.

The Walking School Bus is an exciting opportunity for Holliston to join a national movement to encourage health, wellness and social engagement in young children by promoting walking as an alternate way to commute to school. The Walking School Bus will highlight the use of our Rail Trail as a wonderful route by which our children can safely commute to school.

By partnering with the MassDOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program the Holliston elementary schools have brought new possibilities to our children, schools and community to make walking to school a safe and healthy option for students. SRTS gives Holliston technical support now and as we launch the Walking School Bus and offers possible future funding for infrastructure improvements.

Families with elementary school-aged children are asked to help by completing an anonymous online survey by January 21. The collected information will guide fast approaching decisions about which neighborhoods the bus stops should be placed in as well as provide a baseline from which to determine the positive results of the Walking School Bus.

Use the following link to access the short (less than 3 minute) survey: http://masaferoutessurvey.org

We hope for great response from families and will receive a financial reward if we have a 50% or greater.

Thank you, Tina Hein
