Community Farm Itching for Spring

by Bobby Blair
January 26, 2019

The Community Farm Advisory Committee met Thursday eve at town hall and board members were setting their sights on fresh vegetables and fruits. The committee is on track to complete a septic system for the house on the property by late spring so visitors to the farm can answer the call of mother nature so to speak. Plans are also in the works for the Annual St. Patrick's Morning Breakfast on March 16th (location to be announced) to be co-hosted by Holliston in Bloom. A month later the group will sponsor their third Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the farm on April 7th.

Chairman of the Friends of the Community Farm PJ Kilkelly announced plans to convert a small shed on the property into a chicken coop and the addition to the farm of several goats and possibly a pig.

Advisory Board Chair Kris Westland announced a partnership with the town's Parks & Rec Department for spring classes at the farm beginning in late March. The classes "Learn to Grow & Grow to Learn" will teach students ages 7-14 how and when seeds should be planted, transplanting, the value of composting, and the lesson of - where do seeds come from. The classes will be held every other Wednesday thru the first part of June. The program will be overseen by Parks & Rec Director Mark Frank & his staff of Lisa Diluzio and Shannon Cornwell. The Community Farm will provide intructors as well as seed and planting materials.
