School Committee Meets

by Yvette Cain
January 25, 2019

The School Committee met last night at the Holliston High School library.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Jackson announced assistance to any residents impacted by the government furlough with a temporary need to access services.   “A community is waiting to help.”  Reach out to the guidance staff, a member of the administration or to Jackson, and they will provide the “confidential bridge” to find needed resources and guide you through the process.

Presenting a review of the district’s recent Professional Development day (January 18), Assistant Superintendent Peter Botelho described a day for teachers led by teachers, technicians, and administrators.  Much meaningful professional learning ensued, with over 40 workshops available from which teachers could create their own schedule.

In an effort to display the district’s progress in meeting 2019 goals, administrators from Placentino, Miller, Adams, and Holliston High School reviewed staff and student work thus far.  Presentations to the School Committee displayed the four district goals: innovative learning opportunities, social and emotional health of staff and students, teaching all students, and communication.

Classroom activities, photographs, programs, and opportunities for learning highlighted progress toward goal attainment by principals Jamie Slaney (Placentino), David Keim (Miller), David Jordan (Adams), and Nicole Bottomley (HHS).

The School Committee will meet Friday, January 25, in the HHS Library for a Strategic Initiatives Workshop, and February 7, in regular session.
