Holliston High School Hockey Wins 1st Annual SOUP Face-Off

by Press Release
January 31, 2019

The Holliston Pantry Shelf is pleased to announce that Coach Dan Geary and the Holliston High School Hockey program won the first annual soup collection competition.   The Hockey program collected 557 cans of soups, versus 283 collected by Coach Jenna Galster’s Basketball program.   The competition raised an estimated $1,500 worth of soup for the Holliston Pantry Shelf.  The winning Coach Dan Geary earned a spot as a Celebrity Server at Holliston Pantry Shelf’s SOUPer Bowl 2019.  The event will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 5 - 7:30 pm at Christ The King Lutheran Church, located at 600 Central Street in Holliston, MA.  Holliston residents and those of surrounding communities are encouraged to gather together to attend the event and enjoy delicious soups donated by local businesses.   The SOUPer Bowl is in its 12th year and is the single largest fundraising event for the Holliston Pantry Shelf.

“We are so pleased to see the enthusiastic and incredibly successful contributions of both the Basketball and Hockey programs,” said Stephen Bradford, President of Holliston Pantry Shelf. “It really is remarkable to see so many young people step up in such a meaningful way to help feed neighbors in need, and I commend these coaches for fostering community service within their programs.”

The SOUPer Bowl dinner features gourmet soups donated by local businesses.  Fresh breads, beverages and homemade desserts are also included in the meal.  Guests will also have a chance to win exciting prizes in a drawing that features goods and services donated by local businesses and individual families.  The following businesses have committed to provide soups this year:

  • Holliston Superette
  • Bertucci’s Holliston
  • Bazels
  • Jasper Hill Millis
  • Outpost Farm
  • Casey’s Crossing

Tickets are being sold at Coffee Haven, Holliston Superette and Town Clerk's Office. Adults 12 and older are $15, Seniors 65+ and children 6 to 11 are $8, and admission is free for children up to 5 years.

The Holliston Pantry Shelf serves close to 200 families in town and is entirely operated and staffed by volunteers in the community.    Any resident of Holliston may go to the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall to obtain a Panty ID card, which entitles them to shop weekly at the Pantry.  Shopper’s identities are kept strictly confidential.

The Holliston Pantry Shelf is located at 73 Charles Street.   Donations are always welcome.  Pantry Hours are Monday - Friday 10am - 2 pm, and evening hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 - 7:30 pm.   If the Pantry is closed, donations can be placed in the large box directly outside the Pantry entrance.

What a fun night the soup supper was. I am sitting home now in hopes of getting a nice prize of goodies. I couldn't taste all the good soups, I did my best BUT my mother always said "save room for dessert" and that was good as well. It is a good place to meet friends you haven't seen in a while.
