Library Trustees meeting March 6, 2019

March 9, 2019

Director Leslie McDonnell updated the Trustees of the Library on building projects and reviewed recent library activities at this month’s meeting.  Family Game Night, held at the Town Hall was successful, and McDonnell continues to explore new venues for library programs.

In her progress update on the Library, McDonnell said, “The work is really moving.  There’s a lot of action.”  ReBuildEx is working 2 to 3 days a week.

The ceiling remains shored up and work has commenced within the rafter section of the building.  ReBuildEx has brought in some electric heaters that are warming the staff.  Chief Michael Cassidy has given McDonnell the okay to park a storage pod housing the books and other library materials from the third floor behind the Fire Department.

ReBuildEx will install a temporary wall to replace the plastic sheeting that now separates the circulation desk from the library proper.  This installation will temper the sound as well as the dust.

Anticipating a June or July completion date, ReBuildEx will deliver progress reports to McDonnell.  The Trustees asked for these as well.

In other business, the passing of former Holliston children’s librarian Paula Sharaga, of Cambridge, was noted.  McDonnell and other staff attended the memorial service in Brookline.  The Friends of the Library plan a memorial for Sharaga that will grace the children’s library.

The Friends of the Library clothing drive will be May 4th.  All clothing items, bedding—including comforters and blankets, towels, jewelry, shoes and boots are appreciated,  no matter the condition of the items.

Chair Robert Malone commended McDonnell and the staff for their tremendous efforts during reconstruction.  All trustees heartily agreed.

The next meeting of the Trustees is April 3, at 7:00 PM.

Good Dirt Don’t Hurt

You’d think a person talking about dirt wouldn’t attract more than a couple of friends giving advice on the best detergent to use, but Tuesday night’s Holliston Garden Club meeting at the Senior Center proved otherwise.
