Spring Programs Blooming at Parks and Recreation

by Press Release
April 6, 2019

Holliston Parks and Recreation is excited to highlight our busy Spring Programming options, including our increasingly popular Thursday after-school busing programs for kids in grades K-5!

We have buses running from the Miller and Placentino Elementary schools to 1750 Washington Street where we have a slate of fun, educational, and athletic programming options for all ages. These programs begin Thursday, April 25th, and run each Thursday for either 6 or 8 weeks, depending on the program.  Here are some of the great options:

Cupcake Creations

Not only are cupcakes delicious to eat, they are also wonderful to decorate, especially if your child can make whimsical ones all by themselves!  In class, your child will create a different cupcake each week that they will then take home to dazzle family and friends with!

Afterschool Dodgeball & Street Hockey

We’ll play all sorts of varieties of Dodgeball including Doctor Dodgeball, Zombie Dodgeball, Gauntlet Dodgeball, and many more. In Street Hockey, you’ll have your chance to deke, dodge and score on all of your friends!

Pop Dance with Aly Pereira

Come join in on the fun of learning the latest dance moves to the most popular music out now!   Students will learn various dances to popular songs.  The class incorporates choreography and different forms of freestyle movement.  At the end of the 8-week session, the children will have a short performance of their hard work.

Cartooning class with Young Rembrandts

It’s springtime...that can only mean one thing at Young Rembrandts… it’s time for cartooning! Your child will be exposed to the excitement of drawing and animating characters. These drawings will delight our students as they learn how to draw dynamic figures and action-filled scenes. Your funny bone will be tickled when you see the humorous personas created out of inanimate objects. Each week brings a new set of multiple drawing tied together by a common theme or together telling a sequential story.

Motion Commotion (Physics)

What’s shaking? Investigate the physics of how things move! We’ll use Newton’s laws to study crashing cars and balloon rocket racers. Build a toothpick tower and see if can survive the shaking of “tectonic plates!” Design a zany zip line for a thrilling ride, and spin your way to the top by designing a toy that can spin the longest.

Culinary Kids (grades 3-8)

Come and work on your Culinary Skills with our amazing culinary teacher, Sandyha Jain. In this class each week we will focus on wholesome, creative recipes and techniques that will translate into healthy and fun meal ideas kids can utilize at home. Recipes will cover the following areas: appetizers, main meals, breakfasts, desserts and more. Sampling of the day’s results will be available for take home.

In addition to our busing programs, we have some great new program options this season including a wonderful inclusive soccer program we are running in conjunction with Medway Parks and Recreation:

Kick with Care (ages 5-13)

Kick with Care is an outreach program whereby modifications to the game of soccer are provided so that children with special needs or anxiety can enjoy the world’s most popular game on a weekly basis. While Kick with Care does serve children with mental and physical disabilities, the program also welcomes children who don’t have a medically diagnosed condition. Some players are just shy or have anxiety being in a structured youth soccer program.

Finally, if parents are looking for activities during April Vacation, Parks and Recreation has you covered with our extremely popular day camp running Tuesday- Thursday April 16th-18th.  These fun filled days will fly by with all the activities we have in store for you!  Kids will enjoy lots of arts & crafts projects including: catch-it cones, piggy bank painting, color me bracelets and make Carl the crab!  Kids will also be able to play board games, indoor active games, contests, trivia, Legos, movies and more!
