Ivam Macedo Lopes is a New American Citizen

by Paul Saulnier
April 22, 2019

Ivam just passed the entrance exam and earned his citizenship but it didn't happen overnight.

Ivan hails from the town of Govenador Valadares (population 250,000) in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He graduated from Univale (college) and taught English and Portugese there. He first came to the United States in 1996 and stayed until 2002. Ivan decided he wanted to become a US citizen and since his sister was living here he was qualified to request a Green Card which would allow him to stay for 10 years and work towards citizenship. It took 10 years to approve his request and he has been in the states for 5 years now.

Ivam has been working for Ahronian Landscape and Design Inc. for the last 3 years. According to Mark Ahronian, Ivam is "part of the family." "Everybody loves Ivam. He works hard and always has a smile on his face".

The company held a party for Ivan where his fellow employees presented him with a flag, a three-corner hat and lots of congratulations.

Welcome to America, Ivam.
