Selectmen Meet April 22nd

by Bobby Blair
April 23, 2019

Under the public comments section of Monday night's selectmen's meeting, Walter McGrath, below right, representing the American Legion & VFW and who also is a member of the Blair Square Committee queried the board as to their stance on a veterans memorial at Blair Square. McGrath had heard comments from Selectman Mark Ahronian that he was in favor of having a proposed memorial in front of town hall. Ahronian said he felt that town hall was "the best and most honorable place" for a memorial. The two parties agreed to meet again to discuss the issue.

Bryan Clancy, below, brought the board up to date with his committee's work, mainly the renovation of 172 Concord Street as part of the town's affordable housing. Selectmen felt Clancy out as to how he would feel with yet another committee -- this one for affordable housing for the senior population of town. Clancy said his committee would be happy to work with the newcomers.

DPW Chief Sean Reese stated that the grinding down of pavement on Highland Street is underway and will be delayed for a day due to the milling machine breaking down. Reese also sought approval for a  reserve fund transfer in the amount of $57,225 for the removal of 30 trees which are in danger of toppling. Selectmen approved the expending of $92,500 for water main work on Cedar Street.
