Open Doors Event at Water Street Studios

by Yvette Cain
April 28, 2019

What a special way to see AND hear the Water Street studios in Holliston!  Thursday evening a handful of artists opened their studios to the public in style.

Gently swaying white blossoms of the Bradford pear trees lined Water Street, welcoming lucky townspeople who were “in the know” about this little event.  Artists and art enthusiasts shared some wine and cheese and milled (no pun intended) around the open 4th floor lobby as musicians tuned their instruments in the wings.

The audience was seated, a short introduction was provided to the music to follow, and we all met “George,” the violinist originally from Transylvania, who spoke briefly about the folk tune he would play.  A hush filled the room, and George raised his violin, coaxing dulcet notes.

Pillows, crayons, and paper filled the area directly in front of the musician where children (and those so inclined) could gather to create art of their imagination.  George played to the tune’s end, strings sweetly vibrating in concert with his bow, and then stood aside to let Sarah introduce the next piece that would include her skillful performance on the cello.  The audience lent its rapt attention, sipping wine in the warmth of a beautiful spring evening.

Following the concert, the audience adjourned to stroll through open studios on both the third and fourth floors of the site. We hope to see more “Open Door” events such as this one in the coming weeks.
