Let The Work Begin - Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground

by Chris Cain
May 3, 2019

What a beautiful day for a Groundbreaking Ceremony!  A large crowd of state and local leaders, along with Habitat for Humanity staff and volunteers, and many well-wishers gathered recently to kick off the rehabilitation of this 110 year old house on Concord Street.

Debbie Maruca Hoak, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, shared some opening remarks and welcomed everyone to this momentus occasion.  Also, she provided some inside information.  On Saturday, May 4th there will be Spring Fling at the Ashland ReStore.  The normally low prices will be marked down during this one day sale!

Other speakers included: Jessica Murphy, President of the Habitat Board; Dennis Giombetti, representing State Senator Karen Spilka, State Representative Carolyn Dykema, and Bryan Clancy, Chairman of the Holliston Housing Trust - the organization that is responsible for this rehabilitation.  Representative Dykema perhaps summarized Habitat's efforts best by saying, "this house will provide stability . . . and become a home with a heart."

Speaking of heart, Pastor Mark Peterson, from Christ the King Lutheran Church provided a suitable blessing for the house, the volunteers, and the future owners.

Then the moment everyone had waited for - the ceremonial spades in the ground (you might notice that Selectman Ahronian used his extensive landscape experience for this duty.)

Work in earnest begins on April 30th, which coincides with the beginning of Women Build 2019 - six weeks of groups of women volunteering on this job site.  It's not too late (men are welcome too) to sign up.
