Water Main Replacement Project: Mudville Area Begins May 20th

by Press Release
May 18, 2019

Orange flyers placed in mailboxes on May 14th alerted residents and businesses within the Mudville area to the water main replacement project.

Information contained on flyers summarized the scope of the work, the tentative schedule, water service and construction disruptions, and coordination with school buses.

Existing water mains will be replaced on Exchange, School, Spring, Pleasant, Mechanic, and Union Streets.  The installation of water mains, valves, hydrants, and new water service for each property is covered in this project.  Sidewalk and roadway improvements will be made through a separate future contract.

Construction begins on or about Monday, May 20, and will continue through mid September.  Work hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  No work will occur on weekends and holidays.

Water service may be turned off once or twice during the course of the project.  Advance notice will be given.  An emergency shut down may occur due to unforeseen construction-related issues.  The Water Department suggests storing some water for essential use during both planned and emergency shutdowns.

Water service will be interrupted to each house or business in this area for about 2 to 3 hours to connect the property to the new water main.  This shutdown will affect only one property at a time. A day’s notice will be respected.

Except for the installation day and the connection day when heavy construction activity is in front of each property, owners will be able to access their properties.  The crew will notify residents before excavating in front of their driveway so that a vehicle can be moved temporarily to either side of construction.

Emergency departments, postal service, trash and recycling collection trucks and others will be able to access the neighborhood from either side of the active construction zone.

The School Department has been notified of the project, and coordination with them will minimize interruptions during construction.

If you have questions, please contact Sean Reese, Director of Public Works, at Holliston Water Department: 508-429-0603.
