The Election Results Are Official

by Chris Cain
May 25, 2019

As of about 11:00 am on Friday May 24th, the Town Clerk, Elizabeth Greendale certified the final tallies from the 2019 Annual Town Election.  They are presented below and also on the Town Clerk's website 2019 Annual Town Election - Official Results

In talking with Liz I learned that Chelsea Dubin, the top vote getter for the Board of Health, has declined the position (as noted below).  The resulting vacancy will be filled by an appointment made jointly by the Board of Health and the Board of Selectmen.  Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest to those boards.

Liz also provided some data from previous Annual Town Elections.  This week's vote total of 1,436 was roughly 13 % of the registered voters in Holliston.  Also, the total was slightly below the average of the previous three elections.  Liz was surprised by this year's relatively low turn out given that there were several contested races and two ballot questions.

Dyan Fitzgerald and Bonnie Conroy shared that 'it takes a village' to conduct an election.  In addition to the Town Clerk and her staff, there are 26 other jobs to perform on election day.  A total of forty citizens were involved in covering the polls from 7 am to 8 pm.  Nineteen additional people showed up as the polls closed to count the ballots and tally the results.  Throughout the day a Holliston Police officer is on duty to secure the process / ballots.  And then there is the crew from DPW who sets up and takes down the voting equipment!

All this work is done to ensure that the following results are certified as accurate and reliable.  This is how our democracy works.
