2019 Olivia Berit Bergstrom Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Hope Andrew

2019 Olivia Berit Bergstrom Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Hope Andrew

Kirsten Bergstrom, trustee of the Olivia Berit Bergstrom Memorial Scholarship, announced recently that this year's (the second annual) scholarship winner is Hope Andrew, 18, of Heritage Way in Holliston, Massachusetts. Ms. Andrew, who is graduating this June from Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole, Massachusetts, is planning to attend Iowa State University with a major in Animal Science and a concentration in Companion Animal Science.

Hope Andrew has spent her after-school and summer hours working with dogs and other animals at several local and regional venues. “I always went to horse camp at Li’l Folk Farm over the summer, took lessons, and went every week to check out the Dog Encyclopedia from the school library, just for fun.”  (This reminded Kirsten Bergstrom of her daughter, Olivia.)  “I am hoping that my studies in animal science will prepare me for either a career in training dogs or as an animal science teacher at the high school or college level,” wrote Ms. Andrew.

Hope Andrew’s passion for animals has played a large part in her part-time and summer jobs—from Sales Associate for Especially for Pets in Medway to her Dog Daycare Handler job for Amusement Bark in Holliston. She has been privately pet-sitting for a number of years and her coursework at Norfolk County Agricultural High School has been in Veterinary Science, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Animal Behavior, and Canine Behavior and Health.

The Olivia Berit Bergstrom Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a Holliston student who exemplifies Olivia’s strength, dedication, and commitment to their passion and has the drive to move it forward. Olivia was a 2016 graduate of Holliston High School whose interests led her to pursue a college degree in art and nutrition and to raise and nurture horses. Last year’s scholarship went to Savannah Foley, who has a passion for dance and yoga. Those interested in donating to this scholarship fund should send checks payable to The Olivia B. Bergstrom Memorial Trust, to 447 Marshall Street, Holliston, MA 01746.

Kirsten Bergstrom is particularly excited to honor this year’s awardee, who is, like Olivia, very passionate about animals and animal health. Big congratulations to Hope Andrew and all the best wishes for her future in animal sciences!
