Three Talented Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Educators Selected for Artist Residency to Explore Innovative Uses of Painting Technology

Now in its fifth year, the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers in partnership with Golden Artist Colors coordinated the GOLDEN Educators Residency—an unprecedented opportunity for art educators with students who received recognition in the 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the country's longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. This summer, the artists-in-residence will live in private apartments at the Golden Foundation Artist Residence in New Berlin, NY, and receive the unparalleled opportunity to enhance their own artistic skills through access to large studio spaces and a vast array of unique painting materials and technologies from Golden Artist Colors, which is located just down the road from the Residency Barn.

This year’s GOLDEN Educator Residents are: Hollistonian Michael Frassinelli who teaches at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA; Jenna Hudock from Boardman High School in Boardman, OH; and Christina Keith from Chaska High School in Chaska, MN.

While in residence, the three educators will focus on developing their own artistic practices while exploring Golden Artist Colors’ wide range of custom and experimental acrylic, oil, and watercolor products available for professional artists working with paint. On-site GOLDEN Materials and Application Specialists will challenge them to use innovative materials, open new channels for creative expression, and expand the way they think about the painting process. Residents attend daily exploratory workshops with GOLDEN Technical Services staff and gain 24/7 access to open studio space and 140 acres of pastoral meadows within the premises. Residents and nine additional finalists will also receive $1,000 gift certificates for GOLDEN paints and supplies.
