And They're Off - For a Great Cause

The Fifth Annual 5K and Kids' Fun Run was held under a beautiful sky.

Race organizers estimated that the registration for this year's event was about the same as in years past.

Ed Daniels served as "The Voice" of the event keeping things moving on schedule and organizing the runners - especially the smallest entrants.

EMT Scott DeGanne volunteered his time to make sure any race injuries received proper care.

After all it is a fund raiser so I checked in at the registration table to see the funds.  This wad of cash is just from those who registered on the day of the race.

As the runners began to form up, I didn't see any pre-race jitters - just people out for a run to raise money.

At exactly 9:00, the horn sounded and the 5K runners of all ages headed down the trail.  The first runner to cross the finish line was Mike Fowler with a time of 18mins 25 secs.  The first woman to cross the finish line was Dana Balejko at 19mins 28secs.  All the race results are posted at https://www.secondwindtiming.com/

Following the awards ceremony recognizing Mike and Dana, the real FUN began.  This year the Kids' Fun Run was divided into three heats; Under 5; 6 and 7; and 8 and older (I was tempted to enter this group - until I saw them run).

Below the Under 5 group lines up - pretty straight line for such little ones getting ready for Ed to give them the traditional, Ready, Set, Go.  Boy did they go!

In similar fashion the next two heats were run.  As the age increased, so did the distance with the 8 and older group running to and from the Arch Street bridge.

The Fun Run participants were truly running for the gold that awaited them at the finish line.

You might have spotted Yvette in a couple of these pictures.  She posted an album of many more pictures on the Holliston Reporter Facebook page -> https://www.facebook.com/pg/HollistonReportercom-155733254139/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10157293708024140

Thank you Friends of the Holliston Trails for raising funds to keep our trail safe and fun for all to use!
