Holliston Gets Nutty

by Chris Cain
July 3, 2019

I must admit that I was somewhat skeptical when I found an e-mail in our inbox from "Dry Roasted Danny."  It turns out that 'Dry Roasted' is better known around Holliston as Dan Higgins whose parents and grandparents live in town.  Tuesday Dan was 'working' in Holliston doing his job as a 'Peanutter' for Planters Peanuts.  And then I got a call from the Town Hall saying there was a peanut parked out in front!  Here's what I saw and learned.

Dan shows why he was hired to be a Peanutter.  Lucky for him he didn't get a parking ticket for taking up more than one space!

'Dry Roasted' described his job as you get up each day and jump into a vehicle that was built on the frame of an old bread truck and drive around America being a Planters Brand Ambassador.  Not everyone can be an ambassador and certainly not everyone can safely navigate this 'vehicle' on the highways and by-ways of our country.

Dan, who graduated from Syracuse University, applied for the job and got the call to be interviewed - in Chicago.  He had to make a one year commitment to get the gig.  When he was hired, he had two weeks of intensive training on all things peanutty and of course how to drive the NUTmobile.

He spent Tuesday visiting his parents and grandparents.  It is likely that many Hollistonians saw the NUTmobile around town Tuesday and Tuesday night.

If you missed "Dry Roasted" and his crew today, not to worry.  He and the NUTmobile will be at Gillette Stadium tomorrow afternoon and evening and in Natick for the 4th of July festivities.  Dan might bring his pride and joy back into Holliston following the parade.

Oh to be young again and drive a converted bread truck (the ridges on this peanut are actually foam swimming pool noodles) around just being nutty!

Good point Toni on Storrow Drive, but here in Holliston also stay clear of the Exchange Street bridge

What an adventure for a young man! I'm sure his parents and grandparents are very proud of him, and knowing his grandparents, I am positive they are!

My Guinea pig named Peanut J. Butter is chirping all over the place thinking about a rolling peanut.
