Here are some facts about the Fourth to help us celebrate our nation's independence.

>  America's independence was approved by the 2nd Continental Congress on July 2nd in 1776.  The written document we know as the Declaration of Independence took 2 days to write and was signed on the 4th of July.

>  Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration on the 18th century version of a laptop - a laptop desk!!

>  The American congress made Independence day an official holiday in 1870.

>  Three Presidents have died on July 4th; two of the original signers of the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, and James Monroe.

>  So far, one President has been born on July 4th, Calvin Coolidge.

>  Seven of the signers of the Declaration went to Harvard.

>  Our neighbors in Bristol, RI have held a 4th of July parade every year since 1785.  If you're an early-bird, you might be able to make it for the 2019 edition of the parade that steps off at 10:30.

>  It is estimated that approximately 150 million pounds of hot dogs are consumed on July 4th.
