Water:  Use It, Don’t Lose It

Water:  Use It, Don’t Lose It

Limit lawn watering to once or twice a week - Infrequent, deep watering, promotes deep roots that will allow the plant to survive on less water.

Frequent lawn watering often encourages shallow roots that could make the lawn more susceptible to pests and disease.  And don’t water at mid-day.  Evaporation steals the water you intended for the lawn.  Watering in the early morning is best because it both conserves water and allows it to sink in for a deeper watering.

As your lawn’s needs change over the season, keep your irrigation system tuned to the amount of water needed and the timing of application. Consider turning the system off during periods of natural rainfall.
