2011 Celebrate Holliston Parade

Celebrate Holliston 2017 is on SEPTEMBER 16th

The postponed September 2011 Celebrate Holliston Day went on as scheduled on October 1, 2011.

The day began with a parade on Woodland Street to Central to Goodwill Park.  The weather was threatening, but did not dampen the spirit of the day. 

Celebrate Holliston Day, postponed to October 1 from September 24th due to weather, went on as scheduled despite the threat of showers.

Sirens and flashing lights led the parade with happy kids tossing candy to appreciative spectators.

Selectmen Jay Marsden and Kevin Conley shared candy also.

The military was represented with this National Guard vehicle driven by SGT Nic Jordan.

Joanne Apesos, Citizen of the Year, greeted the crowd from her 1969 Plymouth convertible.

Citizen of the Year Craig Denman arrived in a 1965  Mustang Convertible.

Mark Ahronian, the 2010 Citizen of the Year. followed.

The Cosmic Sisters float was awarded a blue ribbon for The Most Celestial Float

According to Catherine Stackpole, "We have been working hard here at the cosmic sister to get the word out that we ARE HERE!  ( www.thecosmicsister.net )  Fall is such a busy season for everyone involved in community activities, and we aren't sure if everyone knows that we are always accepting new students!  Even if a session has already started, we love to find ways to add new participants!  Rae has created an AMAZING place for people to get together and be creative!  Her slogan is "Never apologize for your art!""

Troop 2249 was well represented.

Cub Scout Pack 47 had a lot of fun marching in the parade too.

Holliston Meadows Pet Resort was awarded a blue ribbon for the Most Creative Float.

Members of Prana Productions entertained the spectators as they marched through town on their way to Goodwill Park (above and below).

Cub Scout Pack 2 had a prominent role in the parade.

The Holliston Democratic Town Commitee too was well represented.

Representative Carolyn Dykema greeted her constituents.

Senator Karen Spilka was among the marchers greeting the crowd.

Outpost Farm was awarded a blue ribbon for the Best Harvest Float.

The Holliston Newcomers Club got the blue ribbon for the Friendliest Float. The award for the Best in Show was presented to Serena's Grooming.  Unfortunately no photo is available.

The festivities of the day continued at Goodwill Park with many local businesses and clubs greeting the visitors and the ever popular chilli contest.

sadly, we of the band couldnt make it because the woodwinds would not have survived the weather. but the robotics team made a good haul in raffle sales

Water Ban as of May 1st.

A water ban is in effect in Holliston under the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Water Management Protection's Act effective May 1st banning non-essential outdoor water use.

Paul Revere and Bill Dawes Ride Again

April 17th is the official Patriots' Day, locally known as Marathon Day, but it is the day of the Paul Revere ride re-enacted by locals. Paul Revere does have a real Holliston connection too.
