Holliston Honors its Citizens of the Year

by Paul Saulnier 10/1/11

A break in the weather allowed Celebrate Holliston to go ahead, one week later than scheduled but still a great event.

Always a feature of Celebrate Holliston is recognition of two residents who represent the best of the best. This year they are Craig Denman and Joanne Apesos.

Selectman Kevin Conley spoke of Joanne's life in and contributions to Holliston since she moved here in 1996 with her family. She has been active in the Newcomers Club, the PTSA Auction, the Holliston Education Foundation, and especially the Food Pantry.

Joanne spoke of her first days in Holliston when a neighbor told her that she and her husband had to put his '69 Plymouth convertible in the Celebrate Holliston parade coming up in two weeks. Little did she know that she would be riding again in 2011 as Holliston's Woman of the Year.

Selectman Jay Marsden filled everyone in on Craig's qualifications as citizen of the year. Raising five kids should have been enough to keep anyone busy, but Craig found the time to be active in the Lions Club, head of Holliston's Auxilliary Polce, and countless acts of assistance to residents as one of Holliston's Finest since 1986.

Craig accepted the award stating that he was grateful to have been brought up in Holliston and to be able to live here with his wife and children and his extended family near by.

Congratulations, Joanne and Craig, and thank you for yor service to Holliston.
