Veterans' Graves Decorated

by Bobby Blair 5/24/12

As is tradition, the Thursday night before Memorial Day is always reserved to place flags on graves of deceased veterans in Holliston.

Below, John Givner, the town's new Veteran's Service Officer and now a town resident, places a flag on a grave at Lake Grove Cemetery

Scouts assisted local veterans in replacing worn out flags ....

...which would be burned in a solemn ceremony.

Prior to the burning ceremony, VFW Chaplain George Snow gave those present a lesson about our National Anthem.

Memorial Day Services will be held at 10 a.m. at Lake Grove Cemetery and 10:30 at St. Mary's Cemetery. The parade begins at 11:a.m. at the VFW Hall on Woodland Street.

Thank you Cub Scout Pack 48 for assisting in dressing the Veteran's graves. You are the future of this great nation and I hope your experience last night will be carried forth as part of your life's values. Snowy

Thanks to George for a very interesting talk. I believe it waas one of his best. His audience of scouts, parents and Veterans hung on his words. Also, thanks to the Scouts for their help in honoring our fallen Brothers and Sisters.
