Outsider Takes Note of Holliston

by From the Publisher's Desk 5/31/12

A casual visitor sent a note to the Town Clerk expressing their impression of Holliston.

This note confirms what we all know and appreciate.

My family and I just spent Memorial Day weekend in the Lexington area for the Needham soccer tournament. It was a hot, scattered weekend as we tried to scramble multiple children to multiple fields throughout the area for some very exciting games. One such field was located in Holliston and as I was unfamiliar with the area, we were entirely focused on the GPS and getting to the right field.

As we entered the town, however, we could not help but slow and take our time as we were greeted with not only a picturesque landscape with a beautiful downtown, but the flags and names of the military personnel on each telephone pole was very moving. They continued on to the side roads to the field as well, and my children and I were suddenly silent as we took in the meaning of these flags.

I wanted to thank the beautiful town of Holliston not only for hosting us for soccer, but for reminding us all to take the time out of our busy three day weekend to remember the significance of our Memorial Day and the sacrifices that have been made for us.

Sometimes it is just the littlest thing that carries the greatest meaning. Thank you for listening and thank you for caring.

Since I have lived in Holliston my whole life -- I am very biased, but for every person who is proud of our town and helps to make it what it is - remember this note. It is amazing that someone would take the time to write a note and it helps to remind us what we felt when the we saw for the first time so many years ago the signs along the side of so many roads listing the names of those who had died in the war.

The exact point I was trying to make in my "Name The Park" post. Bobby's efforts make our beautiful Town of Holliston stand out among all the rest!! How nice that someone took the time to send such a lovely note!! Once again, thank you volunteers!
