The Fourth at the Lake
by Bill Tobin 7/5/12
Great weather, great entertainment, great friends and great food; put it all together
for a great Fourth of July celebration in Holliston on beautiful Lake Winthrop.
The festivities at the Lake sponsored by the Park Department are enjoyed by Holliston residents only.
And they meant it.
Lex Schmidt and Dani Mahoney checked the residential ID's of all entering the park, and they reported turning away many disappointed holiday celebrants, which of course was their job.

Magician Fran Flynn entertained his audience of all ages with many 'how do you do that' tricks.
Ben Douglas had the courage to question Fran and thought he knew how the trick tricked us.
He decided to play along with Fran and was again "tricked"
And what is a magic show without pulling a bunny out of a hat? Ben agreed and had the opportunity to pet the real live bunny.
The Tall Boys with Jonathan Loya, on sax and bass, Jared Ghioto on drums, Randy Mc Gravey on guitar and Brian McGravey on keyboard and bass, were prepared to present an interesting program of assorted selections. They were doing great unitl they ran into a technical electrical problem. It was remedied and the show continued. And then the problem re-occurred. Fixed again, then failed again. They had to give in and cancel the remaining selections to the disappointment of the audience. They are a talented group of college students.
The audience relaxed on the grounds of Stoddard Park.
Steve Roberson and his guitar, followed with an hour of classical, traditional and original works. He ended with This Land is My Land a tribute to the late Woody Guthrie, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this month,.
Another local group, The Groovetusks, also entertained us on the Fourth. Mark Schultz, on bass, Chris Perkins on guitar and Lex Schmidt on drums formed the band as Holiston High School friends. Mark and Lex are juniors at Berklee College of Music and Chris is a sophomore at NYU. Keep up the good work.
It was great day to enjoy the refreshing waters of the lake.
Brian and Lisa Ahronian had a day of relaxation at the beach.
Jack Anderson and Jill Roberson had some difficulty in getting the grill ready to roast their hot dogs, but they finally solved the problem.
Of course the Ice Cream Van is always available to satisfy the dessert cravings.
