Beatrice (Turner) Schofield at 97

The children of Beatrice (Turner) Schofield sadly announce the passing of their much-loved mother on May 13, 2020.

Bea was born in North Eastham, Cape Cod on February 14, 1923 (a true Valentine!) to Fred & Alice Turner. Bea spent most of her early years running and swimming at the Eastham beaches. She graduated from high school in 1942 and bravely moved to Boston with her best friend Ellie Mills to work as a secretary at John Hancock Ins.

In 1946 Bea met the love of her life, Brenton Schofield, while she was walking down Massasoit Road in North Eastham. Because she was not allowed to ride in cars with boys, she stepped on Brent’s running board and he drove her home. That was Bea, who was always ready to laugh and flirt.

Bea and Brent married on February 1, 1947 and moved to Holliston where they began their family, raising their three children. Through the late 50’s both Bea and Brent were heavily involved in The Holliston Chapter of the Masons and Eastern Star, Myrtle Chapter. Bea was an exceptional wife and mother and cared deeply for her family. An excellent baker, she was known for her apple pies, cookies, and cakes. She and Brent enjoyed traveling and toured most of Europe, drove to Alaska, and cruised the many Islands of the Caribbean.

Brent passed in 2001, and Bea carried on, becoming a Milford Senior Center Volunteer, a graduate of the 7th Milford Police Dept. Citizens Police Academy and avid bingo player. She enjoyed being a Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Nanny to everyone in her life and will be greatly missed.

Bea is survived by her sister Frances, of Eastham, her three children, Barry & wife Karen Schofield of Georgia, Kathleen DeLuca and Sandy & husband Doug Maier of Milford. She is also survived by her grandchildren- Tony & wife Shauna, Granddaughter Lisa & husband Steve Gogolinski, Grandson Midshipman 3rd Class Conor Maier of US Merchant Marine Academy, Granddaughters Lauren Schofield and her partner Dan, Sarah Schofield and Cyndi Schofield. Bea was also blessed with many great grandchildren, Joseph, Curtis, Jacob, Thomas and Beckett. She was honored to be Nanny to Karly, Ben, Jake, Cal, Reese & Carter Jane Leverone, Kaitlyn, Tim, Liam & Jack McNamara, and Kristy Maier.

Bea was predeceased by brothers, Warren, Greg, and Fred and her sisters Mary and Mathel, and her son-in-law Anthony DeLuca Jr.

Bea’s family will be forever grateful to the staff at Countryside Nursing Home for their love, support and service to her in her final years of life. And thank you Buma Sargeant funeral home for guiding us through these trying times.

Private graveside services will take place at Lake Grove Cemetery, Holliston MA. Her celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Eastham Historical Society, 1869 Schoolhouse and Museum, Box 8, Eastham MA 02642 in memory of Bea Turner Schofield.

We lived next door to Bea and Brent and family in Holliston and couldn’t have asked for better neighbors. Now Bea and Brent and Nanci are neighbors once again in heaven. RIP. Bea
