Pride Flag Displayed Proudly

The Philly Pride flag was displayed to show that all races are part of the Pride movement.
Holliston Pride Committee member Barbara Fritts Worby addresses the gathering.

During her remarks, Barbara Fritts Worby invoked the words of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., “Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere.” She went on to call for inclusiveness for all peoples. She called for reflection – each of us remembering those who have gone before like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera , trans women of color who witnessed the police raid at the Stonewall Inn and were among the first people to fight back.

She thanked Select Board member Tina Hein for bringing the request to display the flag to the Select Board and the Board for its approval to do so. Also thanked were Donna Muzzy in the Town Administrator’s office for help getting the flag onto the building and Michelle from Hingham Pride who donated the custom ‘H’ flag.

In closing she asked that we vote in the upcoming elections. She mentioned that several local merchants have, or will have soon, pride clothing, accessories, and books for sale. On Friday, June 19th (Juneteenth), Diverse Holliston will hold a rally at Goodwill Park beginning at 4:30 – look for details on their Facebook page.

Lina Giraldo, Fritts Worby, and Trudy Cross proudly display the Philly Flag.

Holliston Pride Committee member Lina Giraldo shared that she was excited that the Select Board supported this event. She sees the Pride movement as a way to “embrace more diversity, excite, empower, and to create spaces for conversations.”

Fiona and Oliver Large, along with Molly and Abbie Breault came out with their mothers to support the Holliston Pride Committee
A large socially distanced crowd gathered at Town Hall for the event.
On our way home, we noticed these mini-flags along the Green. Put there by the Holliston Pride Committee with the permission of the First Church of Christ.

The Flags will be posted on Town Hall through Sunday, June 14th. Thank you Barbara and the Holliston Pride Committee for organizing this important and enlightening event.
