The Library Trustees Hold Remote Annual Meeting

Chair Kevin Robert Malone called the June 3, 2020 meeting to order at 7:02 on Wednesday evening.  The meeting was attended through remote participation. Library Director Leslie McDonnell reported of her meeting last week with the Select Board to which she presented the 1/12 Library budget proposal created with use of the FY2020 Library budget.

The Trustees voted to approve the second iteration of the Library Space Study.  It will be forwarded to the Select Board and Town Administrator and then posted on the Library website.

Election of officers for the Library Trustees will take place during its next meeting, September 2, 2020.  This time will also allow for the Town Election, June 23.

Friends of the Library have made donations to support children’s “Book Bundles,” a grouping of 5 books on the same theme that are strapped together.  (Examples of themes include Dinosaurs, Princesses, Superheroes, Dogs, etc.)  These may be requested by phone or online.

Additional donations from the Friends of the Library supported the purchase of software “Event Keeper,” that makes Zoom meetings safer.

In other business, McDonnell learned of the purchase of TDBank property by a dental practice.  Due to work beginning on the former bank, the library book pick-up spot has been relocated to a tented area on the Library’s front lawn.

Looking ahead, the Trustees approved a Saturday, July 4, holiday closing of the Library, with half-day hours of 10AM-2PM on July 3.  The Library will be closed on Sunday, July 5.

With more guidance from MA Governor Charlie Baker and local guidance from Chief Michael Cassidy, the Library is poised to make further needed safety changes for that time that it may again reopen.  Shields are up and room dividers have been installed.  McDonnell reports that recent feedback intimates that patrons’ needs are presently being met with the staff’s pick up and delivery services.

The Trustees adjourned at 7:46 PM, with plans to keep in touch electronically with library staff and meet again on September 2, 2020.
