Rail Trail Snack Shop Opens Today

Formerly home to D & M Auto Parts, 15 Winthrop Street opens today as the Rail Trail Snack Shop.  Treats for all—including your four-legged friends—comprise the new stock on the shelves.

The building once housed Harold Younglings’ hardware store.  It’s also rumored to have been the birthplace of the actress and game show panelist Arlene Francis (1907-2001).

The opening of the Rail Trail Snack Shop is scheduled for today, Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 AM. The Shop is the brainchild of Ed and Doriane Daniels, who own Vesta Real Estate, located a bit further down the old rail bed on Woodland Street. The Daniels are also known for their once a year “Shredding Day,” held at Holliston High School (although the event was cancelled this year due to the COVID 19).

Ed in his new retail venture.

Ed Daniels, a member of the Friends of the Rail Trail, is also co-founder of the First Night Rail Trail Walk. More recently, Daniels spearheaded a group to improve the yearly holiday downtown lighting program.

Ed Daniels told the Holliston Reporter on Friday that the new retail-only shop is not a restaurant. Ice cream and snacks are the specialties of the house, along with a doggie treat bakery operated by Wendy Wong and Heather DeLoughrey. But Daniels remains flexible about other ideas for the shop.

Presently, Daniels welcomes interested students to apply in person for a job. Shop hours are 11AM to 8 PM Monday through Saturday, and Sundays 10 AM to 8 PM.

Congratulations to the Daniels, and happy trails to all!

Such great news! I’m thrilled that Ed is partnering with Big Biscuit Bakery to keep the bellies of our four-legged friends full on their Holliston trail adventures also. See you on the trail!

Super idea w so many possibilities-
another coffee shop? healthy snacks such as
summer fruit: watermelon slices, peaches, berries whose “wrappers” will make rich compost.
And when the temps go low, hot chocolate?!
Welcome to Rail Trail Snack Shop!!

Unfortunately this news story doesn’t inform the reader of where is this store? Holliston is mentioned but what state?

Mr. Carey – Holliston is in Massachusetts. As far as we know there is no other Holliston – literally.

I had to check where Arlene Frances was born.
Arlene Frances (born Arline Francis Kazanjian) was born in Boston (187 Huntington Ave) on Oct 20 , 1907 to Aram Kazanjian and Leah (Davis) Kazanjian. I found her birth in Boston birth records for 1907 to confirm what was in Wikipedia.
